Final eliminations were full of epic battles at the Soboba Casino in San Jacinto, CA during the SCSDA 2017 April Fuels Day event. Case in point was the Top Fuel final round between Dennis Rieck and Marcus Norris. Rieck turned on the win light in an incredible 2.32 to 2.33 side-by-side battle by just .025 at the stripe. Jim Hammond put the April’s Dream Dragster in the Top Alcohol Winner’s Circle defeating a red lighting Jake Morton in the final round. Kris Lauffer was the Fast Fours winner in a bizarre final round where Robert Skidmore had an uncharacteristic stage foul eliminate him. Derek Balcunas got the job done in the Pro Mod class defeating Dave Huffman with a 3.13ET. The Top Eliminator Finalists, Marc Whitmore & Ron D’Artenay elected to Split the final round after a Timing System glitch took place during their final round battle. In the Pro Bracket classes, Mark Ratliff was the biggest story as he doubled up taking both the Motorcycle Pro 1 and 2 class victories. Jim Larry nearly doubled up himself as he took the Pro 3 class win over Chris Adamson, but came up on the short end of the Pro 2 final round against George Amos. Craig Durning piloted “Eugene the Jeep” to the Pro 1 victory over Kenny Hayes. The Junior class competitors did great battle on track with the winners ending up being: Sunny Graham (Junior Dragster 9+), Delaney Browning (Juniors 9+), Nixon Acevedo (Mini Junior Dragster) & Madysen Holden (Peewees). Day two of the 2017 SCSDA April Fuels Day event was jam packed with action at the Soboba Casino in San Jacinto, CA. The Top Eliminator field was the only class that had major shake ups in the Heads-Up Qualifying order. Ron D’Artenay piloted his “Red Warrior” to a nearly perfect 2.954 on the 2.95 class Index to lead the TE field into race day. Friday’s Top Qualifiers held on to the top spot with no improvement including: Marcus Norris (Top Fuel), Jim Hammond (Top Alcohol), Kris Lauffer (Fast Fours), and Jimmy Depasse (Pro Mod Unlimited). The Bracket classes put on a great show all day long. David Den Hartog turned on win lights with a nice string of 3.6-second wheels up passes to take the Pro Gambler class victory over Kenny Hayes. In the Motorcycle Gambler, Joey Weaver put down some nice laps to score the win defeating Taylor Holmes in the final. The Sportsman classes featured tight racing all day long with the winners being Chris Pintor (Sportsman 1), Forrest Hudson (Sportsman 2), Christy Garnas (Motorcycle Sportsman 1) and Levi Graham (Motorcycle Sportsman 2). Sunday will feature eliminations in the Heads-Up & Pro Bracket categories.

The SCSDA April Fuels event kicked off on Friday at the Soboba Casino in San Jacinto, CA with early round Heads-Up Qualifying & Gambler classes for the bracket racers. Marcus Norris picked up where he left off at the Season Opener as he holds the #1 Qualifying spot heading into Saturday with a strong 2.27/163MPH blast off the trailer. Also a top qualifier in January, Jim Hammond leads the pack again in Top Alcohol with a 2.51 ET to start the weekend. Ron D’Artenay in his first appearance of the season piloted his “Red Warrior” Dragster to the top spot in TE with a solid 2.991 lap. The Fast Fours class was led by Kris Lauffer in the VW Paradise / “Sand Hater” Dragster with a strong 2.77/114MPH blast. Jimmy Depasse holds the Provisional top qualifying spot with a nice 2.83 run in the Pro Mod Unlimited category. The Pro Gambler final round saw John Huff’s “Hangin’ Loose” defeat Chris Adamson’s “Bounty Hunter” in an all-Jeep battle. Grant Hutchinson started off the weekend on the right foot by taking the Motorcycle Gambler victory over Eddie Partida. Qualifying for the Heads-Up categories continues Saturday afternoon with eliminations for the Sportsman & Gambler categories also on top for Saturday.
