Dan Allen started racing on the sand in the 1960’s with his  father and that has led to a life long connection with the sport of sand drag racing. The Allen Racing team balances the fun that comes with being involved in the sport and the professionalism of a top notch race team. This makes their program one of the front runners in the Top Alcohol class.

The Allen team’s current car is a three year-old Spitzer dual slip-joint chassis. The team now has two races on its new 451” BAE motor that is topped by a PSI screw-type supercharger. This is the same engine combination that is popular for the supercharged entries in NHRA’s Top Alcohol Dragster class. A unique feature of the car is that they use a SCS reducer box instead of a transmission allowing them to make each run in a single gear. The SCS box allows the team to choose from a wide selection of gear ratios at a lesser expense than changing gear sets in a typical Lenco set up. Setting up the clutch has been a learning curve for this combination, but has netted a best E.T. of 2.65 last November at the NSDA race in San Jacinto, CA.

The next generation of the Allen Racing team is moving forward as Dan’s son, Daniel, is looking to jump into the driver’s seat in the next few years. Daniel has already received his NHRA Super Comp license at Frank Hawley’s Drag Racing School after getting taught by Funny Car racer Jack Beckman. Daniel also has some experience on sand as he has made laps in Jim Williams’ “Wild American” Top Eliminator dragster. The plan is for Daniel to get some seat time in other rides before jumping into the family Top Alcohol dragster.

Dan’s 2007 plans include racing for the NSDA Top Alcohol points championship. The Allen team got off to a decent start at the NSDA season opener by qualifying #5 with a 2.69 and making it to the semi-finals where they lost to eventual winner Shane Sanford.

Dan would like to thank his crew; Kari (Dan’s wife, who is in charge of all computer related functions), Traci (Dan's daughter, who fuels the car and does general prep work between rounds), Steve Hanson (Marketing), David McWilliams (Crew Chief), Clarence Baker (Lead Mechanic), and the rest of his family/friends that help make things happen. The Allen Racing team also is backed by an impressive group of product sponsors including Lucas Oil, CP Pistons, Crower clutches, Service Rock, and King bearings. Look for the Allen team to be contenders in NSDA’s Top Alcohol class throughout the 2007 race season.
