The 2012 sand drag racing season is definitely in full swing as we head through the middle part of April. West coast action continues to build up with two more races before the Summer hiatus. NSDN will be on-site for the Avenal Sand Drags event April 28-29. The long-range weather forecast is showing possible record setting conditions at the Central California track. Avenal always produces big numbers, even in warm conditions, so this event could be a real treat. The SCSDA is readying for their second race of 2012 on May 18-20 at the Soboba Casino after a successful start to their season at the beginning of April. These should be some stellar upcoming events.

The west coast is not the only area currently racing as tracks across the country are opening up for 2012. Just last weekend, there were events at Atoka (Oklahoma), Shelton’s (Kentucky), and Big River (Missouri). Atoka Motorsports Park in Atoka, OK is preparing for the Heartland Nationals coming up on Memorial Weekend. They are just finishing up the flyer with the race format and info. This will be the first race of the 2012 Mid-America Sand Drag Series, and I am certainly looking forward to seeing the Central States racers battle it out to determine a champion.

Our friends at the Dirt 300 in Albuquerque, NM are getting ready to put on their first National-style event coming up on June 22-24 with the Nitro Nationals. Charlie & his crew have put together a stellar payout structure and are looking forward to putting on a first class show for the Albuquerque crowd. NSDN is looking forward to covering the Nitro Nationals. If you have any questions about the event, don’t hesitate to contact Charlie at 505-400-0611.

That’s about all of the news I have this time around. Until next month…
