NSDA Heading to Yuma

The National Sand Drag Association (NSDA) announced today that they have put together a deal to promote sand drag events at Yuma Speedway Park. The agreement between the NSDA and Yuma Speedway Park (owned by the Cocopah Indian Tribe) lasts through the 2008 race season. Race dates for the NSDA at Yuma Speedway Park will be released in the coming days.

Atoka Watermelon Patch Nationals Announced

Atoka Motorsports Park in Atoka, OK will be holding the 16th annual Watermelon Patch Nationals on September 7th and 8th. This event will be similar to Atoka's Heartland Nationals event with the featured TF, TA, TE, and Quick 16 ATV/Car classes. Atoka June 9 Race Recap

Hot and humid conditions followed by rain at the conclusion of time trials forced racers make some hard decisions on what to dial at Atoka Motorsports Park's June 9 event. The Peewee class was getting ready to run their first round of eliminations when the wind picked up to around 30-50 mph and a rain storm hit the track. The hour long rain storm ended and track owner Cecil Wilson immediately got to work on the track. He was able to get the track back into shape which provided great racing action for the rest of the event.

NSDA Announces Fall Primm Race Dates

The National Sand Drag Association (NSDA) announced recently that their event in the fall at the Primm Valley Resorts will be held October 19-21. The NSDA and Herbst Family are looking forward to another huge event in Primm, NV. Keep an eye out for reservation codes and other news regarding the event to be released in the near future.

Race Recap

The point races began to heat up at the fourth race of the National Sand Drag Association (NSDA) season in San Jacinto, CA May 18-20. The halfway event in the NSDA season produced lots of upsets and began to shape up the points battles heading into the final stretch of the season.

Welcome to the June issue of National Sand Drag News. The focus of sand drag racing starts moving back eastward as the summer season approaches. Thunder Valley Sand Drags in Grain Valley, MO. hosts the BAD Nationals June 22-23. That is always a big event for the Top Alcohol racers from Missouri, Michigan, etc. Also in June is the Liberty, IN $10,000 bracket race on June 29-30. The next weekend (July 7) will be the annual Chassis Shop Shootout event at West Michigan Sand Dragway, which is an $800 to win payout for the Pro Index (3.49-Faster) class. These events coupled with a big event for the ATV racers, the ATV Bash at West Michigan Sand Dragway June 21-23, will make for a busy month of racing. Be sure to stick with us at NSDN for timely results and news from these big events.

There are two words to describe the first month of racing here in the Ohio / Indiana area; hot and dry. In past years it’s been very rare to get through the month of May without any races being rained out. In fact, I typically don’t even get motivated to hit the track until Memorial Day weekend because of the rain-outs. However, this year has been different. It’s been great to get the track early but it’s also been tough on the promoters due to the overall dry condition of the track. It’s nearly impossible to keep an adequate amount of water on the tracks and in the pits. Making a consistent track is difficult at best.

As I write this column it seems like forever since I put my last article together. As with most people around here, life gets exponentially busier as the snow goes away. It seems as though kids’ soccer games, yard clean up, getting the race car ready, and the start of a new racing season all seem to begin at the same time. Add to that the fact that my family and I moved into a new house over the last month, and it’s like there are not enough hours in the day to get everything done that needs to be done. It’s a time of transition for me, as we exchanged our smaller, country house with a pole barn for a larger, subdivision house with a 3 stall garage. It is still roomy enough for my stuff, but just a little bit different setting. Even though we were still getting settled, I did find time to prep the Bronco for the upcoming race season and even attend a couple of events already.
