The NSDA 2008 Season Opener is finally in the books at the Cocopah Casino in Yuma, AZ. Scott Whipple took the Top Fuel class win on a single when Jeff Janoe could not answer the call. Dan Allen finished off a dominating weekend with a 2.429 final round pass in a victory over Mike DeNunzio. Top Eliminator was won by Steve Hoffman, who defeated Leon Januik in the final round. Other winners on the day were Keith Ahart (Pro 1), Wes Johnson (Pro 2), Charlie Johnson (Pro 3), Ryan Winkle (MP 1), and Rob Winkle (MP 2).

Top Fuel

Scott Whipple jumped to the number one qualifying spot in the final qualifying session with a 2.356/159.  Scott was followed by Jeff Janoe’s 2.394 from the first qualifying session. Jeff would run 2.476 and 2.426 on Saturday after extensive chassis repairs Friday night. Dennis Rieck’s Hammer Down crew put the small block dragster back together after Friday’s fire ball and made a half track pass in the final qualifying session. Dennis ran 2.850/86 on the planned half track pass after carding a .960 60’ time. Rick Cameron did not make a pass as he is out for the weekend after his huge wheelstand on Friday.

Dan Allen lowered his number one qualifying number to a 2.411 in Saturday’s first session. Shane Sanford sets number two in the Frederosa Racing dragster with a nice 2.511 in the Saturday night session. Mike DeNunzio ran his quickest ever pass in the Canidae Platinum dragster with a 2.524 pass for the number three spot. In the amazingly quick field, Gary Mink rounds out the field with a great 2.542 run for the fourth position.

Jeff Janoe took his JWJ Top Fuel dragster to the provisional top qualifying spot with a 2.394. Scott Whipple is currently setting #2 with a 2.434/163 first pass followed up by a 2.461/156. Dennis Rieck had a fireball on his first pass after having an oil line come off, but still managed a 2.497. Rick Cameron had the highlight of the event though with a giant wheelstand forcing him to lift early to a 3.068.

Dan Allen wasted no time putting his Lucas Oil Dragster in the record books with a 2.441 pass at 149mph to top the field. Defending champion Shane Sanford laid down a nice pass along side Allen with a 2.554/148mph. Mike DeNunzio made a great pass with a 2.559/134mph to set third.
