The 2012 sand drag racing season has already been one of the most memorable ones in recent history, and we are only nearly halfway through. NSDN has already been at six Daily Race Coverage events and will have two more before the end of June. I want to thank all of the readers and sponsors of NSDN for making all of this possible. It’s amazing the reach that this site has. At seemingly every event I go to, I meet different racers, crew members, and even spectators that are frequent visitors of the site. NSDN has kind of taken on a life of its own, and I’m very thankful for everyone that has contributed to building it into what it is today.

Up next on the NSDN Daily Race Coverage schedule is the second event on the 2012 Mid-America Sand Drag Series tour at Thunder Valley Sand Drags in Grain Valley, MO. The Sieg Family puts on great events, and this one should be no exception. From there, NSDN goes to the Dirt 300 in Albuquerque, NM for their Inaugural Nitro Nationals. I hear of more and more west coast entries making the trip every day, so this should be quite an event. It’s a great opportunity for these guys to race during the Summer Break & put on a great show for a crowd that has never seen high quality sand drag racing like this.

It’s always tough to lose members of our tight knit sand drag racing family. Unfortunately, we had the untimely passing of two of our Midwest racers over the past few weeks. Michigan racer Frank Burgess Jr. passed away at age 23. Frank raced a Jeep at the Michigan tracks over the past few years, and had become very competitive in the Sportsman classes recently. Frank’s dad is also a racer as he campaigns a Bronco in the Sportsman category. I understand that a special Jeep event in Frank's Memory is being planned for WMSD later this season, and we will have coverage on NSDN of this. I’d like to pass along condolences to the Burgess Family. The other sand drag racer that we lost recently was veteran Ohio campaigner Jim Montgomery. Jim raced his Aftershock Jeep in the Midwest for many years. He was a staple of the now defunct ASRO & we most recently saw him at a PTN race in Ohio back in 2010. Our condolences go out to the Montgomery Family.
