The sand drag world has been busy over the first part of the 2013 season, as evidenced by my absence from this column the last couple of months. West coast racers had a great choice of events to hit with five races from the end of January through the end of April. Obviously with the Summer heat, they will take a few months off and get back at it in early October. The final two west coast points races will be action packed with racers vying for both the NSRA & SCSDA series championships. NSDN will be there covering all angles.

I’m particularly looking forward to the Summer months this season. Lots of great things are happening at my home track, West Michigan Sand Dragway as Buddy Hammett has taken over as the track’s General Manager. Buddy has brought a lot of excitement to the table this year with both the normal WMSD race program and the Pro Truck Nationals special events. Buddy and a dedicated group of racers have put in tireless efforts to improve the facility, and I not only look forward to covering the events there this year but also racing for a championship. Action kicks off Memorial Day Weekend with the Fast Friday Nights program on Friday and the normal point series program on Saturday. NSDN will have all the action covered.

Memorial Day Weekend also marks the start of the 2013 Mid-America Sand Drag Series tour. The traditional MASD Season Opener will happen at Atoka Motorsports Park’s Heartland Nationals. This Oklahoma venue always puts on a great show. Although NSDN will not be making the trip this year, we will be working diligently to get up to the second results from the Heartland Nationals from our friends at Atoka Motorsports Park. The first MASD series season was a success, and undoubtedly it will again be a great boost to the Mid-America region.

NSDN is proud to welcome our newest advertiser as our friends at have come on board. Wisconsin’s Scott Ohlrogge and Texas’ Chris Boulet operate Racing In The Dirt and are long time Mud Drag racers that have dabbled in Sand Drags throughout the years. Look for them at more sand events in the near future. Be sure to check out their web site for their full line of products, including wheels, driveline components, wheelie bars, and even rolling to turn-key chassis.
